Chat Room Basics

This help article summarizes the basic chat room functions. Parts of this article are already explained by the chat room if you mouse click the green 'Help' button whilst connected.

Sending a message

At the bottom of the chat room is a text bar. This is where you write your message and press 'Send' to publish it to the rest of the chat room users.

Changing your font color and style

At the bottom of the chat room, you have various options to make your text that you write into the chat room bold (B), italic (I) or underscored (U). You can turn this options on or off by mouse clicking on them, depending on your style.

You can also change the color of your text by mouse clicking onto the coloured square. Your choice of color will be remembered by the chat room the next time you enter.

Member list explained

Basics

If you mouse click onto a member in the members list, their name will expand and provide you with some options. You can view their profile by mouse clicking onto the headshot icon or whisper them by mouse clicking onto the speech bubble. This article will cover whispering later. You can also see a small version of their profile photo.

Symbols

The symbols next the names in the members list represent their sexuality - blue for male, pink for female.

PHI-OM-SIG icon represents the fraternity status.

Hierarchy

The Admin staff on the site will display in the chat room with a red star next to their name.

Moderators will appear with a blue star next to their name.

A room host (the person who created the room) will appear with a green key next to their name. Room hosts have the ability to kick a user from their room and also clear the room text.

Changing the room font size

You can increase or decrease the font size of the chat room text by entering the chat room settings by mouse clicking onto the spanner icon alongside the green 'Help' button top right of the chat room. Small, medium, large and extra large are available, depending on your eye sight.

Joining a chat room

You can join two of the main lobbies at any one time or as many of the custom rooms created by other site members.

To see the rooms available, mouse click onto the 'Rooms' tab in the center-right area of the chat room. This will load the rooms available, displaying how many other room users are in there, and whether the room is public or private. Private rooms are those that have been created by other members, they can only be entered if you have been told the password by the creator.

To join a room, mouse click on the room that you wish to join and again mouse click on the 'Join' or 'Join in new tab' option, depending on whether you want to be in more than one room or replace the room you are in.

Creating a chat room

To create a chat room mouse click on the + icon in the center-right area of the chat room. You can then write in a room name and a password if you want the room to be private. Please note that only those who know the password can enter. Finalise the creation by mouse clicking on 'Create'. Mouse click 'Cancel' to opt out.

Whisper modes

Whispers are private messages that you can send to other room users. Only you and the person who you whisper can see your messages. You can either whisper inline so the whispers appear mixed with the rest of the room conversation, or whisper in a separate tab (some find this easier to manage).

You can change your preferences by entering the chat room settings by mouse clicking onto the spanner icon alongside the green 'Help' button top right of the chat room.

Viewing a web cam

You can view a web cam in the chat room by mouse clicking on one of the names in the 'Live Cams' list in the top right section of the chat room.

If you are having problems viewing a web cam, please read this article below:
